Carolina Panthers: Ranking the top 5 players under 25
By Dean Jones
2. D.J. Moore – WR (age 23)
D.J. Moore has all the makings of an exceptional wide receiver. He enjoyed a breakout season with the Carolina Panthers in 2019 and another step forward would see him enter the elite bracket.
The former first-round pick broke the 1,000-yard barrier despite the lack of consistency at quarterback for the majority of the campaign. Moore is an accomplished route runner who has no trouble impacting the game on deep routes or across the middle. And this sort of versatility is something that new offensive coordinator Joe Brady is going to love.
Brady masterminded LSU’s incredible passing offense last season. And although the NFL is a completely different ball game. Having players like Moore is only going to enhance his chances of success.
There is a lot to like about Moore’s chances of producing quality numbers in 2020 and beyond. He is an exciting player that has never lacked confidence. And he has the potential to become the next great Panthers’ wideout if he continues to trend on an upward curve.
He will likely get more attention from opposing defenses next time around. But he will also have another player of real quality on the other side of the field in Robby Anderson. This might take some of the pressure off. And given the Panthers still have All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey in the backfield, teams will be wary of not loading the box.
