Phil Snow’s love for the sidelines

It is evident that Phil Snow is an old-school coach in certain aspects. Although he has a progressive way of thinking defensively. His love for being on the sidelines is something that is not going to change during his time with the Carolina Panthers.

While some coordinators have a preference for getting into a box high up in the stands to get a broader perspective of the field. Snow much prefers being in the thick of things and interacting with players.

This will bode well during their expected periods of difficulty. And having their experienced defensive guru on the sidelines with them should aid them with their in-game transitions.

"“I love being on the field. I get a better feel for the game on the field, and I get a great view of the players eye-to-eye. When they come off the field, I can talk to them. When you study and go into a game, you think you know what’s going to happen, but you have to be ready for things that you didn’t quite think would happen. You may think, ‘Hey, they can’t run the ball against us,’ and all of a sudden, they’re running the football.’ … And if you watch me, I will be about 35 yards away — I won’t be even with the ball. I’ll be away, and I can see. So I get a lot of the same things in the box as far as visually, but I’m on the field with the guys, and I can really get a feel for the game and how they’re reacting to what’s going on in the game.”"

This is a defense that will clearly go through some growing pains during their first year together. Their plight has not been assisted with a lack of time together during the offseason. So having Snow right alongside them could end up being the security blanket some individuals need to maximize their production.

Only time will tell as to how well this group reacts to the stiff challenges that lie ahead. But in Snow, they have a man who has seen it all and is going to put them in the best possible chance to succeed.
