Here are three reasons why Marty Hurney will be given a contract extension by the Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers made so many changes to their roster and coaching staff this offseason it has been hard to keep up. This was a welcome move given the team’s struggles over the last two years. And it is going to be interesting to see just how well they get on following an unprecedented preseason period.
There doesn’t look to be much left from the team that owner David Tepper bought. However, the one constant throughout this whole process for the Carolina Panthers is Marty Hurney. The general manager has overseen this whole process, which will ultimately determine his long-term future with the franchise.
Hurney’s contract is also set to expire soon. And whether Tepper wants to go in a different direction in this particular role remains to be seen. There has been nothing to suggest that he is willing to do this. But one suspects a lot will come down to what transpires when competitive action gets underway.
The GM has done a good job overall for the Panthers. But there are some decisions that could have been handled differently in recent months. This includes the way Cam Newton and Greg Olsen departed the organization after years of prolific production.
This has left some sections of Carolina’s fanbase unhappy with Hurney’s methods. But here are three reasons that the leading figure will be extended.
