Carolina Panthers: 3 reasons to extend Marty Hurney
By Dean Jones
1. NFL Draft success
Marty Hurney has had a tremendous amount of success with his NFL Draft picks during his two spells as general manager of the Carolina Panthers. The team has drafted the most All-Pro selections out of any team across the league. And the GM had a tremendous amount to do with this.
He struck gold in the first round with guys like Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly. But it is his nous for finding diamonds in the rough later on in the process that has really stood out.
This is something that Hurney has excelled at during his time with the Panthers. And it is going to be crucial to Carolina’s rebuild that he continues to do this over the next few seasons.
There is real potential surrounding his 2020 selections. The likes of Derrick Brown, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Jeremy Chinn should all contribute right away. Troy Pride Jr., Kenny Robinson, and Bravvion Roy also have potential on the rotation, so it looks to have been another strong draft from Hurney’s perspective.
While this is just a small element of the general manager role. Hurney has the experience and knowhow to assist the team as they look to become a contender in the not-too-distant future.
Hurney’s draft record speaks for itself. And it could go a long way to him receiving an extension going forward.
