Carolina Panthers 2006 Draft: Brandon Marshall over James Anderson (No. 88)

The Carolina Panthers had back-to-back picks in the third round in 2006. And with the first one at No. 88, they opted to select James Anderson. The linebacker had all the tools necessary to become a success in the NFL. But he never turned into a player of starting caliber and wound up not even starting a full season until 2011.

Brandon Marshall would have been a much better pick in hindsight. He could have become that outside threat opposite Steve Smith at the wide receiver spot that could have been devastating for a considerable period of time.

Marshall played 12 seasons in the NFL and made six Pro Bowls. He was named First-Team All-Pro in 2012. He had elite skills and was a huge red zone threat, which only increased his overall influence on proceedings.

The wideout gave defensive backs nightmares when they came up against him on almost every down. He was one of the best receivers in the league during his prime. And even managed a noteworthy contribution in the twilight of his career.

If the Panthers would have taken Marshall and paired him alongside Smith, it had the scope to be one of the best receiver duos in NFL history.
