Could undrafted free agent Myles Adams do enough to earn a 53-man roster spot with the Carolina Panthers in 2020?

We are now only 79 days from the Carolina Panthers taking the field for their 2020 season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. New head coach Matt Rhule will be keen to see a progression from his roster during the first year of their rebuild. And it will be interesting to see how they cope during what appears to be a tough schedule.

Things will be far from easy in the NFC South. And the Carolina Panthers will need to show their mettle against other teams that will harbor ambitions of making a postseason run next season. It is a young group that will gain a tremendous amount from the experience. But whether this translates into positive results on the field is another matter entirely.

Continuing our countdown feature ahead of the new campaign, we now turn our attention to Carolina’s No. 79. Myles Adams comes into the organization with few expectations on his shoulders. And he might be able to use this to his advantage on a defensive line group that has the potential to be a real strong point as the season goes on.

The undrafted free agent was snapped up quickly by the Panthers once the final pick had been called. Adams has four years’ experience at Rice University. But more is going to be needed in order for him to make a real go of things at the next level.

There will not be any immediate pressure on Adams to make a contribution. Carolina has some impressive pass-rushers on the roster next time out. And this will allow the incoming prospect to develop at his own pace in a new environment.

What sort of skillset does Myles Adams bring to the Carolina Panthers?

There is a lot to like about the Myles Adams goes about his business. He has some good athletic traits to work with. And he also possesses explosiveness that is going to come in very handy.

He is a little rough around the edges in terms of his pass-rushing moves. So this is an area where he will need to improve considerably once the Carolina Panthers finally take the field for training camp.

Another thing Adams has going for him is versatility. He can play anywhere on the defensive line. And this is something that the Panthers’ front office sought in nearly every new player coming into the fold during free agency and the NFL Draft.

Adams finished his college career with 90 combined tackles, 51 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass deflection. Whether he can make a case for a spot on the 53-man roster is up for debate. But the player does have some potential that could result in a practice squad berth until he has fully developed his craft.

The Panthers’ front seven could make significant improvements in 2020 under defensive coordinator Phil Snow. Adams might be on the outside looking in going into training camp. However, if he shows promise and makes the most out of what time he sees on the field. It is going to do his chances of more time in Carolina the world of good.
