Carolina Panthers: 3 overhyped rookies heading into 2020

Carolina Panthers Player No. 1: Jeremy Chinn (S)
The Carolina Panthers made a strong move by trading back into the second round in order to select Jeremy Chinn. The former Southern Illinois standout comes from a good pedigree. And he has all the tools needed to make a real go of things at the next level.
That being said, there has been a huge amount of hype surrounding Chinn since the draft. Some are even expecting the player to make a run at Defensive Rookie of the Year. And given he is not guaranteed to start right away. This puts him in the overhyped category.
There is every chance Chinn becomes a day one starter for the team. But the presence of Juston Burris may indicate the Panthers could wait before unleashing the safety on the NFL.
His versatility could also see him line up as a slot cornerback. And the player won’t have been aided with a lack of time on the field to stake a claim for a starting spot.
Carolina’s decision-makers didn’t trade up with a view to keeping Chinn on the sidelines. And his boundless enthusiasm and instincts are sure to go down well with the team’s loyal fanbase.
However, expecting the earth from Chinn is only going to put more pressure on his shoulders. And with most rookie players at the position. It could be a campaign littered with inconsistencies.
One suspects that people might need to pump the brakes on Chinn’s short-term aspirations. But it still looks to be a shrewd move by the Panthers in the long-term.
