The Carolina Panthers threw for just 17 combined touchdowns in 2019. This was ranked No. 31 in the NFL and played a leading role in their eventual demise.

Teddy Bridgewater has the opportunity to completely turnaround their fortunes in this regard. He rarely gets flustered in the pocket. And this has proved useful both getting the ball downfield and in the red zone.

Given the sort of weapons in Carolina next season. It is pretty hard to envisage anything other than the offense making some serious strides during the first year of their rebuild. And even though Bridgewater has not thrown for more than 14 touchdowns in a single season. It would be a massive surprise if he did not smash that career-high in 2020.

The quarterback threw for nine scores with the New Orleans Saints in just five games last time out. Bridgewater made some difficult throws when it mattered most. And although the Saints’ offensive line is far superior to what he will be playing in front of in Carolina, getting to the 25-touchdown mark is a realistic target he can aspire to.

This will be easier said than done in a run-first offense. But the Panthers would be wise to take some pressure off Christian McCaffrey to ensure his long-term ability to make a lasting contribution after he signed a four-year contract extension worth $64 million this offseason.

Should they go down this particular route, then there will be chances aplenty for Bridgewater to reach this particular milestone. Everything is in position for the signal-caller to succeed. And his long-term future with the organization depends on it.
