Carolina Panthers: 5 players that could be cut before training camp
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: TreVontae Hights (WR)
The Carolina Panthers appear to be absolutely loaded at the wide receiver position heading into 2020. Their core trio of D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, and Curtis Samuel has the potential to do some real damage in new offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s scheme. And there are plenty of others that hold out hopes of getting targets if they impress early on.
TreVontae Hights was brought in as an undrafted free agent after the final name of the 2020 NFL Draft was called. He saw limited time on the field during his time at TCU. And if the NFL opts to trim down numbers ahead of training camp it could spell bad news for the player.
Hights might become a victim of circumstance. But in all honestly, his chances of making the 53-man roster were slim, to begin with. The wideout does have some good skills to develop. But a place on the practice squad might be the best he could hope for.
Should this scenario come to fruition, then it might be the case of Carolina choosing between Hights or Omar Bayless going into camp. One would expect that the Panthers might go with the latter due to his exceptional production at Arkansas State that saw him put up numbers in 2019 to match any receiver in the country at the collegiate level.
