Carolina Panthers trade scenario No. 1 for David Njoku

The Carolina Panthers don’t have much in the way of capital from a player perspective when it comes to making a possible trade for David Njoku. If the decision-makers want to make this move, then the best way to make it happen is by using some of their 2021 NFL Draft picks.

Njoku has tried to back the Cleveland Browns into a corner by demanding a trade. But the player has two years remaining on his current deal. So the organization still holds all the cards for now.

There appears little doubt that Njoku’s days are numbered in Cleveland. The team spent big to bring in prolific pass-catcher Austin Hooper from the Atlanta Falcons in free agency. And they also managed to draft an exciting young prospect in Harrison Bryant.

The Panthers could only wish to have this sort of depth at the tight end position going into the season. They will likely have a top-end selection next spring, which Carolina could use to their advantage in this particular scenario.

Offering the Browns a third-round pick in exchange for Njoku and a sixth-rounder might be something they are willing to consider. The player’s injury history won’t result in Cleveland getting anything like the first-rounder they allocated to take him from Miami. But if they could get a high third-rounder then it might represent good value for a team clearly going in a different direction.
