Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Chris Reed (OL)

Another veteran that finds himself on the proverbial chopping block heading into 2020 is Chris Reed. The offensive lineman was used sparingly during his first season with the Carolina Panthers. And it remains to be seen whether he can make a push for a more prominent role in the coming weeks.

Reed receiver a 70.3 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2019 after giving up one sack and two penalties from 104 snaps. He is heading into the final year of his deal and it will not cost the Panthers anything to cut ties with the player before the campaign.

The team does have plenty of questions to answer regarding their offensive line and their ability to give quarterback Teddy Bridgewater enough time to go through his progressions. They could have three new starters in week one. And chemistry could be a real issue during the early contests.

Reed is a powerful presence to move off the block. But he does tend to struggle with his arm placement at times. His recovery ability is also something that could use some improvement. So it wouldn’t be a great surprise to see the player moved on.

That being said, with a new coaching staff comes opportunity for those that have stuck around. Reed falls into this category. But with only two preseason games now on the schedule. It is going to have a huge ask for him to make his presence felt.
