Carolina Panthers Player No. 3: Christian McCaffrey (RB)

It’s hard to put into words the level of impact that Christian McCaffrey has had on the Carolina Panthers during his first three years as a professional. The All-Pro running back is the league’s best dual-threat player at the position. And has electrified the NFL with his ability to make game-changing plays on almost every down.

He has been nothing short of phenomenal in Carolina. And McCaffrey bucked the running back extension trend when he was given a four-year, $64 million deal this offseason that included a $21 million signing bonus and just over $38 million guaranteed.

McCaffrey is thoroughly deserving of such a contract after becoming the third player in league history to secure 1,000-yards rushing and receiving in the same season.

He has been utilized heavily by the Panthers almost from the moment he stepped on the field. And this is a trend that is set to continue in Joe Brady’s offense.

Although it would be foolish to give their franchise player more than 400 combined touches once again. What the organization must do is find the right balance to make sure McCaffrey is a factor even without the football.

The player himself will have an extra bullseye on his back after a stunning 2019 campaign that saw him emerge as a potential MVP candidate. So it will be essential he remains focused as any complacency that sets into his game is going to cause complications.
