Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Will Grier (QB)

Another that could be set to bounce back in 2020 is Will Grier. This might be a strange pick for the list given the presence of Teddy Bridgewater. But the signal-caller needs some stability after a 2019 season that was littered with inconsistencies.

There is plenty to like about the sort of skills that Grier brings to the table. The Carolina Panthers allocated a third-round pick on his out of West Virginia last year. But he was another that was thrust into a starting position way earlier than his development outlined.

Grier looked like a rabbit in the headlights during his time on the field. He eventually ended 2019 with 228 yards, no touchdowns, four interceptions, and a pass completion percentage of just 53.8. Some significant improvements will be needed in order for him to have a realistic chance of starting again in the future.

The player will now get the chance to progress at his own pace in a backup role behind Bridgewater, who penned a three-year, $63 million deal with the organization during free agency. Grier might not even get the No. 2 spot thanks to the presence of XFL standout PJ Walker. And this might not be a bad thing for his overall development.

Learning from an experienced veteran that has seen it all in Bridgewater is going to stand him in enormously good stead. This might not result in any bounce-back production on the field. But what it will do is get his career turned around following a confidence-sapping rookie campaign.
