Carolina Panthers free-agent target No. 4: Justin Britt (C)

Matt Paradis is heading into a pivotal season with the Carolina Panthers. The center went through his fair share of turmoil in 2019. And he will need to trend on an upward curve quickly next time around.

If things do not go according to plan, then the organization will need to have a contingency plan in place in order to maximize Teddy Bridgewater’s efficiency under center from the word go. Tyler Larsen and Frederick Mauigoa also harbor ambitions of seeing some time on the field. But their ability to be starting caliber remains in question.

One notable name on the free-agent market is Justin Britt. The lineman has enjoyed a hugely successful NFL career so far. And he represents a solid option at what could be a bargain-basement price.

Britt was arguably the NFL’s best center in 2016 after a standout campaign that earned him a 77.0 grade from Pro Football Focus. The player has regressed slightly over the last three years. But one could make a case for him being a better backup than what Carolina currently has, at the very least.

The Panthers are still invested in Paradis from a financial perspective this season. But there is no room for sentiment in the NFL. And this is especially evident with players who are coming of problematic campaigns.
