Carolina Panthers No. 1: Brian Burns (DE)

The Carolina Panthers appear to have found their pass-rusher of the future in Brian Burns. The defensive end made a considerable impression during his rookie season in 2019. And big things are expected next time around in a more prominent role.

There is nothing to suggest that Burns is not more than ready for such a responsibility. The former first-round pick achieved 7.5 sacks in 2019 despite being on the field for just 42 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. And if he can raise his game to new heights throughout his sophomore campaign, then the sky is the limit.

Burns is an explosive player off the line of scrimmage and does have enough pass-rushing tools in his locker to give cause for encouragement. He will need to improve his run support if the player wants to become a prolific three-down presence. But his athleticism should be enough for him to make real strides in this particular area of his game.

The player is still only 22-years-old. So he has plenty of good years ahead of him. Giving Burns a ten-year contract would tie him down for the entirety of his career. And although there is plenty that could go wrong. It could potentially represent a solid investment.

The former Florida State standout comes into 2020 with a Pro Bowl ceiling. And he will also have the benefit of an enormously talented front seven around him.
