Carolina Panthers All-Time RBs: Jonathan Stewart (No. 2)

The Carolina Panthers made the somewhat surprising move to select Jonathan Stewart with the No. 13 overall pick back in 2008. This came just two years after the organization drafted DeAngelo Williams. And this left some questioning what sort of direction the franchise was going in.

Stewart wasted no time in making the decision to take him a shrewd one. And it would eventually end with the player becoming the team’s all-time rushing leader by the time he hung up his cleats.

His one-two punch with Williams was a prolific tandem. And although he got over the 1,000-yard mark just once during his time with the franchise, Stewart quickly became an indispensable member of the group and someone that could be relied upon to produce the goods consistently.

A standout ten-year spell in Carolina saw Stewart attain 7,318 yards and 51 touchdowns from 1,699 carries. He did move on in the twilight of his career in favor of a move to the New York Giants. But this saw him suit up just three times in 2018 before announcing his retirement.

There is no doubt that Stewart is one of the Panthers’ best-ever offensive players. His will to win was extraordinary. And the player literally left everything on the field in terms of effort and dedication to the cause.
