Carolina Panthers trade target No. 2: D.J. Hayden (CB)

C.J Henderson’s arrival might spell the end of D.J. Hayden’s time as a prominent starter with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The cornerback was a high-end NFL Draft pick that comes into the league with shutdown potential. So it remains to be seen whether he can do enough to make an impact from day one.

Hayden actually performed well on an otherwise dismal campaign for the Jaguars’ defense overall. The corner gave up just 25 receptions from 41 targets to earn a 76.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. If the player was to lose his starting spot after such a productive 2019, it might result in him looking for a new home.

This is something that could be of enormous benefit to the Carolina Panthers. Their cornerback room has had a substantial makeover during the offseason. And although they are talented, it could be a rollercoaster ride for the group against some elite passing attacks on the schedule.

Trading for someone like Hayden would be a huge shot in the arm for the organization. The former first-round pick is also heading into the final year of his deal. So the price might be relatively low in comparison to what he could bring to the Panthers.

Carolina might be content to go with what they have initially. But this is a situation that might change rapidly if they struggle early on.
