Panthers: 5 best draft fits if college football season is canceled

Panthers Player No. 1: Trevor Lawrence (QB) – Clemson
Trevor Lawrence’s chances of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft might be better if there is no college season. The Clemson quarterback could be passed by the likes of Penei Sewell or even Justin Fields if the duo outperforms him. Although it is going to take a brave general manager to pass up on the signal-caller given his exceptional production throughout his time with the Tigers.
His rise to potential superstardom has been nothing short of phenomenal. Lawrence looked NFL ready after his first year as a starter. And the player has backed this up with poise and consistency that is hard not to love.
Much will depend on how the Carolina Panthers get on in 2020 as to whether they are going to be in a position to select Lawrence. He would certainly be a popular selection with the team’s fanbase with his Clemson connection. And the national champion has the potential to change around the fortunes of whichever franchise he ends up with.
It’s hard to find any weaknesses in Lawrence’s game. He did become particularly flustered in the pocket against LSU in the 2019 title game. And the Tigers’ strength of schedule last time around didn’t exactly test him for large portions of the campaign.
The Panthers gave Teddy Bridgewater a three-year, $63 million deal with $33 million guaranteed this offseason. But there is an out regarding his contract in 2021. If the former first-round pick fails to make the most out of another starting chance. It will not take long for the natives to get restless.
