Panthers: 5 best draft fits if college football season is canceled

Panthers Player No. 3: Shaun Wade (CB) – Ohio State
If the Carolina Panthers are looking for another option at cornerback in 2021, then Shaun Wade is sure to be high on their shortlist. The player performed well alongside Jeff Okudah at Ohio State last season. But with the prospect of a canceled college season on the horizon, he would not get the chance to show what he can do in the absence of the No. 3 overall pick this year.
Wade plays the game with an infectious enthusiasm that is matched by a potentially elite skill set. He can work either on the outside or in the slot with equal impact. And he is not afraid to challenge the most physically imposing wide receivers thanks to his strength and explosiveness.
It was something of a surprise that Wade opted to return for the Buckeyes in 2020 after such a strong showing over the last two years. This film would be more than enough to ensure he is worthy of a first-round selection next spring, providing he impresses during interviews.
The Panthers go into the season with Donte Jackson, free-agent signing Eli Apple, and their fourth-rounder Troy Pride Jr. as their projected starting trio. Given the exceptional passing attacks on Carolina’s schedule, any weaknesses in this area of the field are going to become a significant problem.
This has the scope to completely undo some expected strides on offense. So the group must prove their worth or it will force the team’s hand in their search for long-term solutions.
Ward definitely fits into this category. And missing the 2020 season if canceled shouldn’t be too much of a complication for his overall aspirations.
