Carolina Panthers 2010 NFL Draft: Victor Cruz over David Gettis ( No. 198)
The Carolina Panthers took wide receiver David Gettis withe the 198th pick and it was a pretty solid selection. He caught 37 passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie year. Unfortunately, that would wind up being the best season of the player’s career.
Gettis tore his ACL before the 2011 season and missed the whole year. He came back in 2012 but didn’t get any playing time and failed to record a reception that season before he was moved on.
Victor Cruz went undrafted in 2010. In fact, the rest of the players on this list ended up not hearing their names called.
Cruz didn’t play at all his rookie year which is the case for most undrafted rookies. Over the next three seasons, the wide receiver developed well and put up some amazing numbers.
From 2011-2013 Cruz caught 241 passes for 3,626 yards and 23 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in 2012 and helped beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Taking Cruz here gives the Panthers’ a receiving core of Steve Smith, Antonio Brown, Cruz, and Jimmy Graham. This had the potential to be unstoppable.
