Panthers Player No. 2: Marvin Wilson (2021 NFL Draft prospect)

The Carolina Panthers used their top-end 2020 NFL Draft pick on defensive tackle Derrick Brown. He comes into the league with Pro Bowl potential and his partnership with Kawann Short has the scope to transform the team’s run defense next season.

If the decision-makers opt to use their 2021 first-round selection on Short’s long-term successor, then Marvin Wilson should be high on their shortlist. The Florida State sensation is projected to be the first interior defensive lineman off the board next spring. And he boasts a phenomenal skill set that is sure to make a smooth transition to the next level.

Wilson’s dominant 6-foot-5, 311 pound frame makes him a force to be reckoned with on the line of scrimmage. This is matched by exceptional footwork and hand placement for a man his size. And the sky is the limit for the Seminole if he reaches his ceiling.

The player is equally impressive against the run or pass. And Wilson possesses the sort of motor that makes him a nightmare to block for opposing lineman.

Even if the college football season is canceled, it shouldn’t have too much impact on Wilson. He has two years of superb film for scouts to go off. And this is sure to make him a top-ten pick next year if the incoming recruit shines during the evaluation process.

Wilson has recorded 85 combined tackles, 36 solo tackles, six pass deflections, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 12.5 tackles for loss over the last two seasons. The prospect of putting him alongside Brown for the next decade in Carolina is nothing short of mouth-watering.
