Panthers: 3 potential replacements for Kawann Short in 2021

Panthers Player No. 3: DaQuan Jones (2021 free agent)

Another route the Carolina Panthers might choose to go down as a potential replacement for Kawann Short is DaQuan Jones. The stout run defender played a leading role for the Tennessee Titans in 2019 during a memorable playoff run that saw them knock off the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots on their way to the AFC Championship game.

Jones possesses similar traits to Short. Slotting him in alongside Derrick Brown should give the Panthers another outstanding presence on the interior. And the former fourth-round pick is experienced enough to pick up the load if Carolina ends up releasing the veteran next spring.

The player is seen more as a two-down lineman. But the Panthers do have members of the current roster that could fill in from a pass-rushing perspective on the interior. And this is something that one expects to see from Efe Obada in particular as the season goes on.

Jones is heading into the final year of his deal with the Titans and will make $7 million in base salary. He has spent his entire six-year career in Tennessee so far. But it remains to be seen whether a big offer from elsewhere will be enough to tempt him into a new challenge.

There is little doubting the credentials that Jones brings to the table. And if the Panthers are looking for someone that can come in and give them the same or better production at a cheaper price. Then the player is well worth considering.
