Carolina Panthers Player No. 4: Tre Boston (S)

To say that Tre Boston made the most out of a second chance with the Carolina Panthers would be a massive understatement. The standout safety was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise disappointing defense in 2019. And he was one of the few that managed to avoid the veteran cull across the roster to get himself a new deal.

Boston signed a three-year, $18 million extension that included an $8 million signing bonus and a further $8 million guaranteed. This has also propelled the player into a leadership position on a young core next season. And this is a role that is sure to bring out the best in him.

Although the secondary did go through its fair share of struggles in 2019, this was not down to Boston. The former fourth-round pick out of North Carolina was constantly coming up with big plays. And this was especially evident in the fourth quarter of close games.

This earned Boston a place on the annual all-clutch team from Pro Football Focus. And it should also see the player named into the NFL Network’s Top-100 list ahead of the new campaign.

Boston’s leadership is already coming across superbly well in the current climate. And if he can take this onto the field. Then the Panthers are going to have a tremendous asset to call upon in times of need.
