Carolina Panthers Player No. 5: Juston Burris (S) – 64 Madden rating
Although Juston Burris might start day one opposite Tre Boston at the safety position with the Panthers. It has not been reflected in a lowly Madden rating of just 64.
This is considerably lower than second-pick Jeremy Chinn’s 70. And Burris also finds himself ranked behind Carolina’s fifth-rounder Kenny Robinson, who was given a 66-rating following an impressive stint in the XFL prior to the Draft.

Considering Burris did enough with the Cleveland Browns in 2019 to earn a respectable 69.4 grade from Pro Football Focus. It appears this rating is very short-sighted.
He is one of many newcomers to the Panthers this offseason after signing a two-year, $8 million deal with a $2.1 million signing bonus and a further $2.1 million guaranteed. Although he might have his work cut out preventing Chinn from passing him on the depth chart during the season, there is nothing to suggest he cannot make an instant impression.
Burris has proven himself to be a capable starter. That is something the Panthers need in 2020 with so much uncertainty surrounding their secondary.
If the former fourth-round pick out of North Carolina State product can live up to his end of the bargain. Then it is going to stand Phil Snow’s defense in good stead in 2020 and maybe beyond.
Carolina didn’t trade back into the second round to select Chinn just for him to sit on the sidelines. But he is a dynamic player that can impact the game all over the field. So how the coaching staff utilizes such a defensive weapon is going to something to watch next season.
