Carolina Panthers: 2011 NFL Draft do-over (6 Rounds)
By Josh Linares
The 2011 NFL Draft was loaded with talent. The Carolina Panthers found their franchise quarterback but who did they miss on?
In 2010 the Carolina Panthers went 2-14 with Jimmy Clausen behind center. They didn’t have a great season but it got them the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.
The first round was one of the best of the last decade. Multiple players who would go on to be the faces of their franchises were taken in this round, which proved to be the case with the Panthers.
Six of the first seven picks have made an All-Pro first team. The one player who hasn’t is A.J. Green and he has still put together a great career making seven Pro Bowls with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The rest of the draft had talented players in every round. The Seattle Seahawks found a lot of players who would go on to play big roles in the team’s future success.
With all of these talented players coming out of one draft class, how did the Panthers miss out on almost all of them? They got Cam Newton but none of their other seven picks had a long term impact.
If the Panthers could go back and decide not to select those who did nothing for the franchise, who would they take instead?
