Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Efe Obada (DE)

There might not be any player in the NFL that has a more unique backstory than Carolina Panthers defensive end Efe Obada.

Obada was born in Nigeria and was human trafficked along with his sister to London when he was just ten-years-old. He didn’t start playing football until he was 22; an age when most athletes are either done playing sports at a highly competitive level or just getting started professionally.

The Dallas Cowboys discovered the 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive end on an international scouting trip in 2015. He would find his way to Carolina in 2017, getting his first NFL action in 2018 with the Panthers.

Not many details are known about Obada’s past childhood. He is a reserved man that seems genuinely grateful for his opportunity to play football at the highest level.

He has turned out to be a very versatile player in the Panthers’ defensive line rotation. Obada seems to get better every year and it is uncertain when he will reach his peak talent because of his late start learning how to play the game.

Obada is yet another unlikely success story that would have fans glued if he was given a reality TV slot. There is a lot that we could learn about the player’s story if he were given the opportunity to share it.
