4 Panthers who could get demoted during the 2020 season

Carolina Panthers Player No. 3: Juston Burris (S)
The Carolina Panthers did not trade back into the second round and take Jeremy Chinn for the player to sit on the sidelines. His athleticism and versatility are something that defensive coordinator Phil Snow can use almost anywhere on the field. And it would be a shock if he didn’t see considerable time on the field from the outset.
ESPN’s depth chart has Juston Burris slotted in at the safety spot opposite Tre Boston going into training camp. The player arrived on a two-year, $8 million deal in free agency. And he performed well for the Cleveland Browns in 2019 on his way to a 69.4 grade from Pro Football Focus.
If Burris can secure the starting job for Carolina’s week one clash against the Las Vegas Raiders, then this will be only half the battle. The former fourth-round pick out of North Carolina will need to perform at an exceptionally high level to keep Chinn and fifth-rounder Kenny Robinson at bay. And even that might not be enough.
The next few weeks will be crucial for Burris and his chances of making a serious impression. Everyone has a clean slate with the Panthers’ new coaching staff. And their commitment to drafting Chinn is something that their free-agent recruit is also going to have to overcome in pursuit of a prominent position on the depth chart.
