Panthers Draft: 5 potential replacements for Russell Okung in 2021
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 1: Penei Sewell (OT) – Oregon
Simply put, Penei Sewell has the chance to be the best offensive tackle prospect coming out of college in recent memory. The Oregon stud put together an exceptional 2019 protecting Justin Herbert’s blindside. And if the player comes on again next time around, his name will be one of the first called next spring.
Sewell has everything one looks for in a standout tackle at the next level. He is a troublesome presence to shift off the block. And he has the footwork and awareness to ensure that opposing pass-rushers don’t get the better of him on the edge.

He is still relatively young, so the potential for improvement is huge. Sewell is college football’s most impressive lineman going into a season where there might not be any notable fixtures in the current climate.
This shouldn’t upset Sewell’s draft prospects whatsoever. The player has two years of quality film to back up what he shows during the evaluation process. And if the Carolina Panthers are in a position to take him, it is something they should strongly consider.
With Sewell expected to be gone in the first five picks. It remains to be seen whether the Panthers would allocate this sort of selection on Sewell.
The temptation to select one of the top quarterback prospects might be a little too tempting to refuse. But if Teddy Bridgewater plays well despite a poor record, it will give Carolina the perfect reason to select a prospect that comes with an All-Pro ceiling.
