Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Omar Bayless (WR)

The Carolina Panthers have an embarrassment of riches at wide receiver heading into 2020. Their top-three options are already cemented into the lineup. But there could be some competitive sessions during training camp involving others that want their share of targets next season.

Undrafted free agent Omar Bayless arrives with the Panthers with a huge chip on his shoulder after not hearing his name called. This is despite putting together one of the best seasons of any college wideout in 2019.

Bayless was virtually unstoppable in his final season at Arkansas State. He possessed a rare ability to impact the passing game anywhere on the field. And this resulted in the player acquiring 93 receptions, 1,653 yards, and 17 touchdowns. He also ended up with a 17.8 yards-per-catch average to further reflect his overall influence.

Although Bayless won’t get the chance to make the most of the opportunities that come his way in the preseason. One could argue that he represents a better option than the likes of DeAndrew White, Damon Jeanpiere Jr., and TreVontae Hights. His upside is tremendous at the next level. And few receivers will be coming into the pros with more confidence.

It is going to be tough for players like Bayless to catch the eye during team drills. There are some questions regarding his ability to get off press coverage in the NFL. But he is a hard worker who thrives under the spotlight.
