Carolina Panthers Player No. 4: Cole Luke (CB)

Cole Luke is looking for an increased role for the Carolina Panthers in 2020. The cornerback position is an area that poses plenty of questions going into the season. And outside of Donte Jackson, there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of consistent production from anyone else on the roster.

The Panthers brought in Eli Apple on a one-year deal for what is going to be his last chance of making a starting spot his own. They also spent their fourth-round selection on Troy Pride Jr. in the hope he can not only contribute right away, but also become a future starter opposite Jackson.

Putting additional pressure on Pride Jr.’s shoulders too early might hamper his chances. Especially when one considers some of the elite passing attacks coming up against the Panthers in 20020.

Luke does have some NFL experience to call upon. But he will need to impress a brand-new coaching staff in a short space of time in order to survive the dreaded early cuts. He has a nice skill set to call upon. But that does not detract from what a precarious situation the next few weeks are for the corner and others on the roster.

It looks to be a straight fight between Luke and Corn Elder for the No. 4 cornerback role on the face of things. And this is a battle that deserves to get the duration of training camp.
