Carolina Panthers: 3 questions at quarterback entering camp

Carolina Panthers Question No. 3: Is Will Grier already a bust?
Will Grier was thrown to the wolves during his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers. The 2019 third-round pick was clearly not ready to see the field. But the organization had little alternative given their struggles.
This could have been a positive experience for Grier. But it is hard to fathom just what sort of positives he took from his brief period under center.
The former West Virginia standout completed just 53.1 percent of his passes on his way to 228 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. While little was expected of the signal-caller behind a woeful offensive line. There is just no telling just what sort of knock this will do to his confidence going forward.
The addition of P.J. Walker leaves the prospect of Grier being the team’s No. 3 option in 2020. Taking him out of the firing line is probably the right thing to do. But it will not take long for the player to be labeled with the dreaded bust label if he doesn’t show progression in the coming years.
Allocating a third-round selection on a quarterback when there were pressing needs elsewhere was something that the Panthers would probably take back in hindsight. And Grier has plenty on his plate as he looks to prove he was worthy of such a commitment from the franchise.
