Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LOS ANGELES RAMS. SAMSONEBUKAM. 1. 51. LB. player

Carolina Panthers trade target No. 1: Samson Ebukam (LB)

Samson Ebukam is a player with tremendous promise. The Nigerian-born edge rusher arrived in the NFL as a fourth-round pick in 2017. And he has gradually progressed with every passing year.

The Eastern Michigan product should get a more increased role on the Los Angeles Rams’ defense in 2020, which is the final year of his rookie deal. Ebukam is set to make $2.1 million in base salary next season. But it appears that LA has no clue how to use him properly. And this could open up an opportunity for the Carolina Panthers if they identify him as a player of interest.

There is a lot to like about Ebukam. He seems like a perfect scheme fit for the Panthers. And he has the versatility to play as an interior linebacker or on the edge in a 4-3 base.

This is something that defensive coordinator Phil Snow is reverting back to in 2020. Ebukam might be available on the free-agent market in 2021. But he is sure to be a hot commodity with another strong season under his belt.

If Carolina wants to guarantee their ability to acquire Ebukam, then they will have to move via the trade market. If the organization could land Ebukam, he could slot opposite Shaq Thompson at outside linebacker and further add to an impressive-looking front seven on the Panthers.

Ebukam has recorded 9.5 sacks, 119 combined tackles, 77 solo tackles, five forced fumbles, 13 tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits during his three-year spell in the NFL so far. He earned a respectable 66.7 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2019. And the player is only going to get better.
