Carolina Panthers: 4 winners from a canceled preseason
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 3: Juston Burris (S)
Juston Burris was brought into the Carolina Panthers following an impressive stint with the Cleveland Browns. But the safety faces plenty of competition for playing time after the organization drafted Jeremy Chinn and Kenny Robinson.
Not having a preseason for the rookie duo to get a taste of action at the next level before competitive games get underway isn’t ideal. There is a lot to like about what sort of impact the pair can make in 2020. And the coaching staff might decide to throw Chinn in straight away thanks to his exceptional skill set.

That would be something of a gamble given their lack of experience in the pros. And it might be more prudent for the Panthers to slot Burris in alongside Tre Boston initially.
This doesn’t mean that Chinn isn’t going to play a prominent role. And the former Southern Illinois standout is capable of making an impact at multiple positions during the initial stages of his development.
Chinn has been keen to label himself as a defensive playmaker rather than your stereotypical safety. His physical attributes will enable the player to make a valuable contribution to the backend or the second level. And how they utilize his gifts is going to be yet another intriguing element to Carolina’s season.
Having no preseason might give the Panthers no other alternative than to start Burris and use Chinn as a dynamic force all over the field. Robinson will need some time to adjust to the rigors of the NFL. So whatever game time he gets in 2020 will be a bonus.
