Carolina Panthers: DB power rankings as training camp begins
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 12: Quin Blanding (S)
Quin Blanding is still a relatively unknown quantity at the NFL level. The safety hasn’t been given an opportunity during his fledgling career so far. And it appears unlikely this is something that will change during the next few months.
He will almost certainly get the opportunity to stand out during training camp. But there are plenty of others who could say they are ahead of Blanding on the depth chart at the present time.
Carolina Panthers Player No. 11: T.J. Green (DB)
T.J. Green is a versatile player who can operate almost anywhere in the secondary. This is something that the Panthers sought heavily this offseason. And it is an element of his game that the defensive back can use to his advantage.
Having a player that can be used in multiple positions is the cornerstone behind every great NFL team. Green has plenty of work to do in the coming weeks. And it remains to be seen whether he can put everything together in a short space of time.
Carolina Panthers Player No. 10: Stantley Thomas-Oliver III (CB)
While seventh-round pick Stantley Thomas-Oliver III is relatively inexperienced playing the cornerback position. His transition from a wide receiver at the college level was exemplary.
This might not result in the rookie seeing much in the way of minutes during his first year in the pros. But if Thomas-Oliver can continue to develop and trend on an upward curve, then the Panthers might have a real steal on their hands.
