Carolina Panthers: DB power rankings as training camp begins
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 9: Corn Elder (CB)
Corn Elder barely got a sniff of the field for the Carolina Panthers in his sophomore season. And he faces a real challenge to impress a coaching team that has no emotional ties to the cornerback.
The former fifth-round selection will not be helped by having any preseason games on the schedule. So it is vital that Elder makes every snap count during team drills to improve his prospects of making the 53-man roster.
Carolina Panthers Player No. 8: Kenny Robinson (S)
Kenny Robinson has something most rookies do not possess. This is an experience in a professional environment following his time in the XFL. And he will need to make sure it is put to good use.
The safety had a colorful path to the NFL. But he has come out of it with a renewed sense of purpose and perspective. There is not much pressure on Robinson in terms of making an immediate contribution. So allowing him to adjust and develop at his own pace could do wonders for his overall development.
Carolina Panthers Player No. 7: Cole Luke (CB)
The No. 4 cornerback spot looks to be up for grabs heading into training camp. Cole Luke stands a good chance of staking a serious claim for the role if he catches the eye of the coaching staff.
He is a solid athlete who has not seen much action in a competitive environment. But Luke will have learned plenty from his rookie campaign that should stand him in good stead.
