CAROLINA PANTHERS. 87. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DB. JEREMY CHINN. 3. player

Carolina Panthers Player No. 3: Jeremy Chinn (DB)

Jeremy Chinn comes into the NFL with the highest of ceilings. The Panthers traded back into the second round to snag the former Southern Illinois standout. And he is expected to make a massive impression from the moment he steps on the field.

The player represents a coaches’ dream in terms of how they can utilize his outstanding skill set. Chinn has the size, speed, and athleticism to do it all. And although he is bound to go through some growing pains, bringing him to Carolina was a shrewd move by the front office.

Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Donte Jackson (CB)

The Panthers will be counting heavily on Donte Jackson making a smooth transition to the team’s No. 1 cornerback role. This is an opportunity that comes with a significant step up in class. But it is something that the former LSU standout appears more than ready for.

Jackson is arguably the NFL’s fastest cornerback. And providing he can eliminate some of the rash decision-making that has cost the player during his time in the league. Then he could be someone with shut down potential going forward.

Covering the likes of Michael Thomas, Julio Jones, and Chris Godwin consistently will not be easy. But if Jackson can cope well with increased expectations, it is going to do Carolina’s chances the world of good.

Carolina Panthers Player No. 1: Tre Boston (S)

There is little disputing the fact that Tre Boston is the unquestioned leader of the Panthers secondary next season. The talented safety made the most out of another chance with the organization in 2019. And his consistency was something that really caught the eye for a defense that struggled overall.

One impressive feature of Boston’s game was his ability to come through in clutch situations. This earned him a three-year, $18 million contract extension at a time when the Panthers were disposing of veteran players.

Boston will need to prove his worth to a new coaching staff next time around. But there is nothing to suggest he cannot rise to the occasion with more responsibility on his shoulders.
