Greg Robinson

It is easy to forget that Greg Robinson was once the No. 2 overall pick. His career has flattered to deceive for the most part. But there is little doubt he would be an upgrade over the Carolina Panthers’ backup options if Russell Okung decides to retire over health concerns.

Robinson has played for three teams during his six-year career to date. And he finds himself on the free-agent scrapheap after the Cleveland Browns decided to go in a different direction.

The lineman did play well in parts for the Browns. But ill-discipline on the line of scrimmage was a constant frustration. Robinson gave up 11 penalties from 860 snaps. And this follows on from the ten flags he accumulated in 2018.

A player with multiple years’ experience should know better by now. Robinson is now waiting for another chance to prove himself. And the Panthers might be able to provide this if the price is right.

He should be on their shortlist of names to pursue if Okung informs them that he is not going to play. Robinson is a lazy individual on the edge at times. But when he is motivated and firing on all cylinders, he is a starting-caliber tackle.

The player is keen to prove that he isn’t a bust. This discussion might be past the point of no return. But Robinson represents an intriguing option at the very least.
