Carolina Panthers Option No. 3: Trade for Jamaal Williams

If the Carolina Panthers opt to bring someone in via the trade market if they end up losing Christian McCaffrey for a considerable period. Then Jamaal Williams is a name they should strongly consider.

The Green Bay Packers running back has been extremely useful in a complementary role behind Aaron Jones. But his chances of surpassing him on the depth chart appear slim.

This might be something that the Panthers could take advantage of. Williams has the dual-threat ability akin to what McCaffrey brings to the table. And it might even result in the player taking his game to new heights.

Williams has been a solid contributor for the Packers after entering the league as a fourth-round pick in 2017. He is heading into the final year of his deal. So the price might not be overly steep if Carolina is faced with this scenario.

The former Brigham Young star has career stats of 1,480 rushing yards and eight touchdowns from 381 touches over a three-year period. This includes a yards-per-carry average of 3.9 and 80 first downs.

He has also recorded 91 receptions, 725 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns to further reflect his overall ability. Williams is a big body who is hard to bring down. And this is exactly the sort of player the Panthers would be looking for in McCaffrey’s absence.

Replacing McCaffrey is a near-impossible task. Everything good that the Panthers does offensively goes through him. And he carried the team virtually single-handedly in 2019.
