Carolina Panthers Draft: Marquez Stevenson (WR) – Houston (No. 163)

Marquez Stevenson has emerged as a dynamic and versatile playmaker for Houston over his career. He has two solid seasons of production under his belt. And the wide receiver has plenty of useful traits that might be an asset at the next level.

This might be an area of strength for the Carolina Panthers heading into the new season. But this might change in 2021. Plenty of fringe players are on short-term deals. And they also have a predicament with No. 3 option Curtis Samuel to consider.

The former Ohio State standout is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. Samuel is an electrifying player that would be a hot commodity on the free-agent market. And another strong showing next time around would see him go to the bargaining table in an incredibly strong position.

If Samuel does end up departing the franchise. The Stevenson has the upside to come in and possibly fill the void. He has 2,141 scrimmage yards over the last two seasons, which included a 75-reception, 1,019-yard campaign in 2018.

Stevenson has superb explosiveness and has the speed to beat opposing cornerbacks down the field. The player does come with some injury history after breaking his collarbone and tearing his ACL in consecutive years. And his lack of lower body strength gives him trouble getting off the block in press coverage.
