Carolina Panthers: 3 realistic goals for Tre Boston in 2020
By Dean Jones
Double-digit pass deflections
Tre Boston will need to be at the top of his game next season. The Carolina Panthers go into the campaign with plenty of questions surrounding their secondary. And this could become an area of weakness against some daunting passing attacks on the schedule.
Boston made his presence felt in this category in 2019. He managed to secure 11 pass deflections and three interceptions thanks to his outstanding awareness and ability to read the quarterback. And the former North Carolina standout gave up just eight receptions from 16 targets thrown his way.
This represents outstanding production from a player who was only given a one-year deal in free agency. Boston made a triumphant return to the Panthers after two years away with the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals. And there is every chance that the player can take another leap forward entering his prime.
It remains to be seen how Carolina’s new-look secondary is going to hold up. Boston will need to have his wits about him constantly. And he will also be tasked with guiding young recruits such as Jeremy Chinn through their initial period of transition.
It is plenty of responsibility for one player. But it is a challenge that Boston is sure to make the most of. Gaining double-digit pass deflections is a realistic goal for him to aim for. And one that would assist the Panthers’ defense considerably.
