The Carolina Panthers could be under some substantial pressure next season. This will be especially evident at the second level thanks to the shock retirement of Luke Kuechly. So players like Tre Boston might see more time in this area of the field in 2020.
The former fourth-round pick has always been a strong tackling presence on the back end. This is an option that defensive coordinator Phil Snow has at his disposal. But the new appointment will also be wary of leaving the Panthers exposed deep if Boston is deployed closer to the line of scrimmage on occasion.
This sort of versatility is something the Carolina sought heavily during the offseason. And it has left them with a dynamic-looking defense that might be low on experience. But they are more than capable of making their presence felt against high-quality opposition.
Boston will be at the forefront of everything good that comes from the Panthers’ defense in 2020. And aiming for a career-high in solo tackles is not out of the realms of possibility.
His current largest total in this statistic is 66 with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. Boston recorded 53 solo tackles and 68 combined in Carolina last time out. But with more responsibility on the player’s shoulders next season, it could result in some lofty numbers across the board.
