Carolina Panthers camp: 4 players to bring in for tryouts
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers Player No. 1: Morris Claiborne – CB
Much was expected of Morris Claiborne when he entered the league. But he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations during his career so far.
The cornerback has been a solid if not spectacular performer during his career. Claiborne did pick up a Super Bowl ring as part of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. But he has been unable to find a new home after both parties went their separate ways in free agency.

It’s easy to forget that Claiborne was once the No. 6 overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys. He had shutdown cornerback written all him during his time at LSU. And this sort of expectation has been hard to live up to for the player.
Claiborne could still have something to offer in the right environment. And this is an area of the field that poses some concern for the Carolina Panthers.
Their starting trio of Donte Jackson, Eli Apple, and Troy Pride Jr. comes with plenty of promise. But how they will cope against some formidable passing attacks on the schedule remains to be seen.
Bringing someone in with the experience and athleticism of Claiborne for a tryout would not hurt. And putting him up against the likes of D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson during drills would tell the coaching staff quickly whether he is worth taking on at this stage of his career.
