Willie Jefferson – DE

Another CFL player that might worth taking a look at during a workout is Willie Jefferson. The defensive end has some impressive physical attributes to call upon. And he was heading into 2020 riding on the crest of a wave.

This might be one of the strongest areas on the Carolina Panthers. But Jefferson has plenty of likable traits when he is firing on all cylinders. His first season as part of the Edmonton Blue Bombers was nothing short of phenomenal. And it earned the pass-rusher a two-year extension earlier this year.

Jefferson notched 12 sacks and 16 pass deflections in 2019, which was the most by a defensive lineman in CFL history. His length is something that could be of some use for an NFL team. And it would be a surprise if someone didn’t at least bring him in for a tryout in the coming weeks.

His contribution helped the Blue Bombers secured their first CFL Championship since 1990. And Jefferson was also named the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player thanks to a dominant series of performances.

The chances of Jefferson making Carolina’s rotations with the strength of their current options are slim. There are plenty of established players fighting for time on the field. And the Panthers also boast two exciting rookies in Derrick Brown and Yetur Gross-Matos.
