4 players feature in Week 2 stock-watch from Panthers’ camp
By Dean Jones
DOWN: Temarrick Hemingway – TE
Things look bleak for Temarrick Hemingway in his bid to make the roster. The tight end was right on the fringes before training camp began. But now he appears to be a prime candidate for release.
The Carolina Panthers made an additional move in this area of the field by bringing in Andrew Vollert following a successful workout. This has made Hemingway’s task even more difficult to impress the coaching staff. And the player might already be past the point of no return.

Hemingway has not been able to force his way onto an NFL roster during his career to date. It appears he is running out of chances to forge a successful career at the next level. And it remains to be seen whether another team will take him on if he is eventually waived by the Panthers.
There does not appear to be any real quality behind Ian Thomas on the depth chart. Chris Manhertz is expected to be the No. 2 role. And while he offers plenty from a blocking perspective. His influence in the passing game will be minimal.
In all honesty, Hemingway will not get a better chance than this. But Carolina’s decision to bring in Vollert to provide extra competition is a strong indication that Hemingway just has not done enough so far.
Whether he gets longer to change this apparent view is up for debate. But it is hard to deny that things are not looking too promising at this juncture.
