4 players the Panthers might consider trading before Week 1
By Dean Jones
Brandon Zylstra – WR
The Carolina Panthers are in a privileged position with their wide receiver group in 2020. There is an embarrassment of riches at the position for offensive coordinator Joe Brady to work with. And some quality players are going to be out of luck when the final cuts are made.
Given the strength in depth at the position. It might be worth the Panthers taking advantage of this by trying to move one or two wideouts on via the trade market. Brandon Zylstra is one such individual. And the organization might be able to get a low-end draft selection in return despite just one year remaining on his contract.
Zylstra is never going to blow you away with elite speed. But what the receives does bring to a franchise is a dependable catching presence that can be counted on in critical situations.
The player brought in eight of 12 receptions thrown his way last season for 108 receiving yards. This earned him a respectable 66.4 grade from Pro Football Focus. But Zylstra might be a victim of circumstance in Carolina that might end up with his head on the chopping block.
There should be some interest for Zylstra, who the Panthers picked up from the Minnesota Vikings. Not all NFL teams are blessed with the weapons Carolina has. And one or two might identify the former Concordia standout as a player of interest.
