Jordan Scarlett – RB

Another area where there is plenty of competition going on during training camp is at running back. Four players are looking to secure the primary backup role behind All-Pro Christian McCaffrey. And judging by the early stages of team drills available to view online, there does not appear to be a clear-cut favorite to secure the role.

Players at the position do not tend to be too valuable in the trade market. Running back is an area of the field that is decreasing in value across the league. And teams would much prefer a cheaper option given their lack of commitment to pay some of the better players this offseason.

Jordan Scarlett is still a relatively unknown quantity in terms of NFL production. His rookie year saw little in the way of carries. And he will need to show his impressive skill set to full effect to stand any chance of bucking this trend in 2020.

He was given the ball just four times for nine yards in his first year as a professional. This 2.3 yards-per-carry average is nothing to write home about. But Scarlett has started camp well and provides a dual-threat presence that is currently all the rage across the league.

This is something the Panthers might be able to utilize as the campaign progresses. However, if they receive a call regarding Scarlett’s availability, then they would be foolish not to seriously consider it.
