Ishmael Hyman – WR

The Carolina Panthers are absolutely loaded at the wide receiver position in 2020. Their starting core is up there with the NFL’s best. And plenty of complementary pieces also come with a significant amount of upside.

Curtis Samuel and Robby Anderson have been two of the stars of training camp so far. The likes of Pharoh Cooper and undrafted free-agent Omar Bayless have also made a substantial impression on the coaching staff. And this might leave someone like Ishmael Hyman facing a make-or-break few weeks in a bid to make the 53-man roster.

Hyman was a free-agent arrival this offseason after spending 2019 as a bit-part player by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He does have some exciting skills to call upon. But the size of the task ahead of him could not be greater.

This has been even more challenging thanks to Cooper and Bayless catching the eye in the manner they have so far. The Panthers have an embarrassment of riches at the wideout spot. And this will leave some quality performers looking for work when the final cuts are made.

The former James Madison standout has had some nice moments at camp. But that does not detract from the fact that he is being outplayed by others also on the fringes.
