4 Carolina Panthers who are generating plenty of buzz at camp
By Dean Jones
Brandon Zylstra – WR
One player that has really come to the fore during training camp is Brandon Zylstra. The wide receiver faced plenty of questions about his future given the strength in depth at the position. But his performances would indicate he is all-but-guaranteed a role in 2020.
This is a pleasant surprise for the Carolina Panthers and one that will further add to the dynamic weapons they have in the passing game. Zylstra is an assured route-runner who has demonstrated his ability to catch under pressure well at camp so far.
He is never going to blow the top off a defense with elite speed. But if he can make a difference on intermediate routes with plenty of space to work in, then this is going to be something of considerable use to new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
Expectations are high surrounding Carolina’s wide receivers next season. This has only been heightened by the level of performance from those right across the depth chart during team drills. And Zylstra has responded to the challenge to such stern competition for places extremely well.
Getting the distribution right in terms of balance is a problem, but a nice one to have for the Panthers. The former CFL standout has been showing out so far and it might come with an increased role in the coming months.
