Another who has generated his fair share of hype during training camp is Juston Burris. The free-agent signing has made his presence felt in no uncertain terms. And this is something that drew significant praise from head coach Matt Rhule during a recent presser.

Burris played well for the Cleveland Browns in 2019, which was enough to get a two-year, $8 million deal with the Carolina Panthers that included a $2.1 million signing bonus and a further $2.1 million guaranteed. The presence of Jeremy Chinn had some questioning whether he was anything more than just a short-term option. But judging by his performances at camp, the safety might have a little bit more to offer than expected.

This is an area of the field that should be relatively assured. Tre Boston was one of the Panthers’ top performers last season and putting Burris alongside him would also allow Chinn to become the defensive weapon he plans to be at the next level.

Having this dependable veteran presence on the backfield should compensate for the uncertainty at cornerback somewhat. But if those on the outside fail to meet expectations it is going to become a problem in a hurry.

Burris has made a hugely encouraging start to life in Carolina. He has fitted in seamlessly with his teammates and this has only enhanced his prospects in 2020.
