Projections for Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver group in 2020
By Dean Jones
D.J. Moore
- 94 receptions, 1.363 yards, nine touchdowns
D.J. Moore enjoyed a breakout season for the Carolina Panthers in 2019. He secured 1,000-yards receiving in only his second year in the NFL. And this was made even more remarkable by an extreme lack of consistency from the quarterback position.
The ceiling could not be higher for Moore’s long-term prospects. The Panthers appear to have struck gold with a top-end NFL Draft pick once again. And superstardom beckons for the former Maryland standout if he takes another leap forward in 2020.
This is not out of the realms of possibility. Moore is an elite route runner who can impact the game over intermediate routes, while his supreme speed allows him to get down the field quickly.
Moore goes into the upcoming campaign with Pro Bowl potential in no uncertain terms. He looks a perfect scheme fit for offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s system. And he is also going to benefit from an All-Pro running back taking up the majority of attention in Christian McCaffrey.
Carolina might be down in some games given the strength of opposition. This will dictate throwing the ball more often and Moore will be one of the prime beneficiaries of this.
The Panthers will be counting on Moore to become an elite No. 1 wide receiver next season and beyond. He is a true star in the making. And the player is only going to get better with more productive tools around him.
